My Brief Story
Brief Story:
Following 2 months of unexplained pain and 'numbness' in first my eye, then my jaw, I was diagnosed by a Neurologist on October 6th 2012 with Type 2 TN on the left hand side of my face and started medication - Tegretol. I was soon on Gabapentin as well, both drugs increased gradually to 600mg Tegretol twice a day and 1200mg Gabapentin 3 times a day. Unfortunately I had no pain relief and with Type 2 TN the pain is constant - relentless and excruciating. I saw the Neurologist every 4 - 6 weeks and he was 'puzzled ' why I was getting no pain relief, if anything my pain was increasing. I was managing to continue working - I'm a teacher- but it was hard and I knew I wasn't performing 100%. In late Oct /early Nov my left cheek started to get a little swollen, an infection was investigated but none found. On December 18th an 'abscess' appeared suddenly on my upper left jaw inside my mouth and I was put on 2 weeks of strong antibiotics. In late December my husband and I were getting desperate and researching on the net came across Upper Cervical treatment. We booked an appointment with Dr Heidi Grant for Dec 28th. She assessed me and we booked another appointment for treatment on Jan 3rd. Following treatment which was pain free there was no change in my TN pain. That night was the same as the last 3 months, woken every 2 hours by excruciating pain. Sitting at the table next morning at about 9am about to have breakfast the TN pain all around the back of my head WAS GONE! I couldn't believe it at first, and dare not move, but it was gone and has not returned. I can't thank Dr Grant enough - I saw her again on Jan 10th and my atlas had 'held'. I see her next on Jan 24th for further review. So Upper Cervical worked for me.
I would like to add a warning to all who have facial pain to get everything checked out carefully. My facial pain remained and I have now been told that the swelling in my cheek and in my mouth are tumors - I'm awaiting the results of biopsy, CT and MRI scans as I write - it looks like cancer. I shall continue to see Dr Grant as I believe her holistic approach can only continue to help me.
