Awful to Awe Full
Hi, my name is Barbara, and I’m a fibromyalgia victim. That greeting sounds like an introduction and the beginning of a life story at a substance abuse meeting, doesn’t it? Well fibromyalgia caused changes in my thought process, my daily routines, my attitude, and my quality of life much like the way an addiction takes charge of someone’s life…
A friend told me that Sharon had gotten wonderful help for it, and that she was like a different person. The friend and I were attending the first night gathering for a women’s Walk to Emmaus weekend on February 28, 2002, which happened to be held at the church Sharon Brown attends…and when I looked up, it was as though the sea of people had parted, and Sharon was face-to-face with me about 6 feet away. I knew that sign! I was to talk to Sharon.
I have been a patient of Dr. Hanson’s for a number of months now. I experienced a little more relief each time I had a correction, and I did not want to go back the way I was.
I actually wake up now in the mornings, sometimes before the alarm goes off, I have an automatic smile on my face; and I don’t eat to comfort my pain. I’ve actually lost 30 pounds, which I think has been due to my new energy level and change in metabolism.
My sleep is deeper and better, and I even have pleasant dreams now, instead of nightmares. My house is cleaner, I’ve started cooking again, and I enrolled in and completed a difficult Human Resources certification course, which I passed. I could never have concentrated well enough to have taken the class prior to treatment; nor would I have been able to keep up the pace at work with the long hours and high stress level that have been required the past few months. ..and the quality of my life is so much better. The promising thing is that there is more to come. I have come from awful pain and all that goes with it back to a real sense of gratitude for life.
Therefore, I’d like to change the word “awful” in my life to two words, “awe full” for the work these doctors are doing. To this wonderful staff and Dr. Hanson, I really have to say “Thanks, and I admire you so much for your compassion and dedication to your profession and for your skills and abilities to give us back normal, healthy lives. I am truly AWE FULL.
