Abstract |
Objective: To review the upper cervical chiropractic care of a sixteen-year-old diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder (BD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
Clinical Features: A sixteen-year-old boy suffered with symptoms of Bipolar Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder since six months of age. His mother reported that he was born with the umbilical cord around his neck and forceps were used to assist delivery. The child experienced frequent accidents and medications included antipsychotics, as well as slow release stimulants for ADHD and depression.
Intervention & Outcome: Upon examination, a subluxation was found in the upper cervical region of the spine using thermography and radiographic analysis. Knee Chest Upper Cervical Specific protocol was used to correct the cervical subluxation. The patient’s condition was evaluated by the doctor’s observation, his mother’s subjective descriptions of the symptoms, and thermographic scans. After seven weeks of care the patient’s symptoms were eliminated or greatly diminished. He no longer required any medications.
Conclusion: Successful chiropractic care is described in the case of a sixteen-year-old diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder (BD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). More research is warranted on the upper cervical subluxation contributing to BD and ADHD. |
Summary |
This case report describes the medical history of a sixteenyear- old patient suffering from Bipolar Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder; the fifteen-week intervention utilizing upper cervical care; and the patient’s response to care. At this patient’s initial examination, an upper cervical subluxation was found using paraspinal digital infrared imaging and upper cervical spinal radiographs. The subluxation was corrected using the Knee Chest Upper Cervical Specific technique. All symptoms were significantly decreased or eliminated following the fifteen weeks of upper cervical chiropractic care. More research is recommended to confirm the positive outcome in this sixteen-year-old patient with Bipolar Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. |
